Who We Are

We are Nebraska?s First Responders: The Nebraska Professional Fire Fighters Association is the AFL-CIO affiliated labor association representing more than 1,300 professional fire fighters and emergency medical personnel in Nebraska. Our goal is to ensure Fire Fighter Safety, provided we also deal with wages and benefits for all our members. Specific duties include the following:

  • Advise or represent locals in contract negotiations, arbitration, or presentation before local governmental leaders.
  • Work in cooperation with our IAFF district vice president to organize new IAFF affiliates within the State.
  • Work in conjunction with the IAFF to deliver educational seminars on local union administration, grievances, contract negotiations, and Health and Safety classes.
  • Work to ensure Local, State, and Federal political leaders are informed and educated with our Fire Fighter safety in mind. We provide non-partisan support for those candidates who support us, whether they are Republican, Democrat, or Independent.

August is Firefighter Appreciation Month

During an August 12th ceremony, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman proclaimed August 2009 "Firefighter Appreciation Month" recognizing all of the firefighters efforts in fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  The MDA combats 43 neuromuscular diseases that affects 700 families in Nebraska and nearly one million Americans.  Nebraska's Firefighters will be conducting fundraising projects on behalf of MDA  including the "Fill the Boot" drives and voluntary tolls during Labor Day Weekend. 

FIREPAC Awards

The NPFFA, Local 385, Local 644 and the 2nd District all recieved awards for their FIREPAC participation.  Receiving awards for 2008 Best In Class-Highest Percentage and 2008 Best In Class-Top Dollars Raised were: IAFF District 2, the Nebraska Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 385, and IAFF Local 644.  Awards were presented by General President Harold A. Schaitberger at the 2009 Alfred K. Whitehead Legislative Conference.  Congratulations to all who support FIREPAC and make a difference in our success!
